CORE 4: Rebalance, Recover, Retain, Restore

A NEW program aimed at improving the quality of water entering the Gippsland Lakes
catchments by retaining phosphorous, nitrogen and sediment on dairy farms will be
introduced in Gippsland.

Dairy farmers from selected areas between Warragul and Glengarry and Boolarra to Neerim
East will be invited to participate in the CORE 4 program. The program aims to invest in
on-farm improvements to reduce the amount of nutrients lost through run-off into local
waterways and help boost farm production.

The CORE 4 program, which is Australian Government funded through the Caring for Our
Country initiative, is part of the Gippsland Lakes Enhancement Program. Co-managed under
the auspice of the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) and
Gippsland Lakes and Catchment Taskforce, the program will assess individual dairy farms
for their potential capacity to retain and reuse nutrients on-farm.
