Gippy Agchat newsletter reports that comparative August/August milk data from Dairy Australia shows rain really dampened off Gippsland’s milk production, seeing the region slip 7.9% - while the rest of the state saw production increases. Year to date (YTD) data also shows Gippsland as the only Victorian region to produce less milk, down 7.4%.
Wetter conditions have boosted the drought-hit northern regions. Their milk production rose 12% between the two Augusts and 8.8% YTD. In the state's west, the monthly comparison was up 3.3% and 1% YTD. In 2010/11 Gippsland produced 36.3% of Victoria’s milk, the west 35.4% and the north 28.3%.
