Establishment of the PICCC

PICCCThe Primary Industries Climate Challenges Centre (PICCC) was established in February this year as a collaboration between Department of Primary Industries and the University of Melbourne to advance research and extension of that research to Victorian farmers, industry and community groups.
The mission of PICCC is to ‘provide national leadership through research, development, extension, partnerships and knowledge management and to build the capacity of primary industries to manage risks and opportunities from climate change’.
The projects being undertaken by the PICCC include the Australian Grains Free Air CO2 Enrichment project (AGFACE), enteric methane research, nitrous oxide research as well as implementation of a component of the Climate Change Adaptation in the Southern Australian Livestock Industries program.
Associate Professor Richard Eckard of both the University of Melbourne and the Department of Primary Industries is the Acting Director of the centre supported by a research executive consisting of university and department representatives.
