3030 Field Day - Forages to compliment pasture shortfalls

10:30 – 2:00, Tuesday May 3, Gormandale

Project 3030 has been running for the past 6 years as part of Dairy Australia’s feedbase program. The focus of the project has been to consider forage options for leading producers already maximising perennial ryegrass pasture production, and test the viability of whether alternate forage options could be used to ‘lift the bar’, from both a production and economic standpoint by complimenting and building on the perennial ryegrass base.

To review the findings, and to demonstrate how some of these alternate options have been implemented, there will be a field Day at Ben & Peta Thexton’s, Gormandale on Tuesday May 3, commencing at 10:30am, with lunch provided at the Gormandale Football Club.

Benn has been a member of the Gippsland 3030 Partner Farm support committee. He has taken a novel approach to alternative pasture species and has established high performing stands of Tall Fescue and Prairie Grass where soil types have dictated that perennial ryegrass is not necessarily the most appropriate or productive species
